ANDREWÂ MOORE
Bass-Baritone
Bass-Baritone, Andrew Moore, is currently based in Zürich, Switzerland, where he is a soloist of the ensemble at Opernhaus Zürich. A New Jersey native, Andrew has been seen performing in various venues around the world. His recent credits include his role debut of Leporello in Mozart's Don Giovanni, Fleville in Andrea Cheniér, the title role as Odysseus in the world premiere of Die Odyssee, the title role of Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro, and Paolo Albiani in Simone Boccanegra. In October 2024, Kaspar Sannemann from Oper Aktuell wrote: "The insidiously scheming Paolo Albiani was now sung by bass-baritone Andrew Moore, for me THE discovery of the evening. He managed to create an extremely gripping portrait of this dark character. In addition to his outstanding vocal performance, he also impressed with his captivating stage presence." Andrew will make his Poland debut later this season, as the Bass Soloist in Beethoven Symphony no. 9, with Krzysztof Urbanski at the podium. Other credits include Mamma Agatha in Donizetti´s Viva la Mamma (May 2021) where Thomas Schacher from NEUE ZÜCHER ZEITUNG wrote: "...Andrew Moore captivates with a voluminous baritone voice and realizes the «rock role» of Mamma Agata - a rare counterpart to the much more common travesty of the trouser role - in all its ambiguity." In 2020, Andrew performed as Vicar Gedge, in the Curtis Institute of Music's Albert Herring. David Shengold from OPERA NEWS wrote, "...baritone Andrew Moore gave an extremely polished performance as unctuous Vicar Gedge." More of Andrew's past credits include: Killian (Der Freischütz) Marchese (La Traviata) Masetto (Don Giovanni) Madman (Lessons in Love and Violence), Fiorello (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Talpa (Il Tabarro), the title role in Le Nozze di Figaro, Guglielmo (Cosi fan Tutte), and Rocco (Fidelio). In 2018, Andrew attended the Merola Opera Program in San Francisco, where he participated in the Schwabacher Summer Concert and Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress. Phillip Campbell from The Bay Area Reporter wrote, "... bass-baritone Andrew Moore still managed to alert us to an exceptionally even and rich voice". In March of 2017, Andrew was a finalist in the New Jersey state Opera Alfredo Silipigni Competition. That same year, he premiered with the New Jersey Chamber Singers as the baritone soloist in their Faure Requiem concert and album. In early 2019, Andrew entered the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, where he placed in the New England Region Finals, and received the Susan Eastman Encouragement Award. Andrew also was an Apprentice Singer for the Santa Fe Opera 2019 season, where he participated in shows like La Boheme, Cosi fan Tutte, and Jenufa. Andrew moved in 2020 to Zürich, where he was a member of the International Opera Studio for two seasons. Andrew holds a BM in Music Education and an MM in Opera, from Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University, as well as a Professional Studies Certificate from the Curtis Institute of Music.
